I had such a fun time hosting family this past weekend. : )
We went out to eat (a lot!), laughed plenty, sat by the water, went on walks, enjoyed good wine, worshiped together, and made memories to last a lifetime.
And while I enjoyed all this, I'd sadly also thought in the back of my head how my to-do list was growing instead of shrinking. It felt weird and uncomfortable not to be making progress on my 'list.' (Do you have a 'list,' too?)
But you know what? I'm still going to count this past weekend as a success.
Part of happiness (to me), is engaging with loved ones. Taking time to connect, break bread, and lift one another up. Family (and friends!) are gifts that get better & better with time.
When you look back at your highlight reel and reflect on your sweetest memories, what comes to mind?
Memories of loved ones? Or memories of crossing things off 'the list'?
When you are feeling anxious or uncomfortable because you're not crossing things off 'the list,' remember your core values (I bet there's a good chance they might include investing in meaningful relationships!), and let them guide you. Sometimes, rest and re-connection need to become priority on 'the list,' and that's a good thing, you guys.
And I'll leave you with this:
"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." - Alfred D. Souza
