When Do You Feel Most Alive? Start Stepping into God's Unique Design for Your Life

how to feel most alive with God and step into His unique design for you

Have you ever looked at someone else's life and thought, "I want that kind of fire, that kind of passion"?

You see her thriving in her faith. On fire in her work. Living with a joy and purpose that seems to radiate from the inside out.

And meanwhile, you're over here wondering: Why hasn't that happened for me yet? What am I missing?

If that stings a little to read, I get it. I've been there myself, and I know how all-consuming those thoughts can feel.

But here's what I want you to know: there's no shame if that frustration feels familiar. But, take heart- it doesn't have to be that way. And you're in exactly the right place.

The Comparison Trap

The clients I work with are incredibly successful. Growing like crazy. Trend setters. Women you might even look up to!

Yet they still struggle with feeling like they're not enough or could be doing better. And that most definitely doesn't feel good.

In Romans, Paul talks about wanting to do good but wrestling with the sin inside him, saying "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do."

Sure, those thoughts can be normal. But they do not have to dominate.

It's time to notice them, release them, and let the Lord's plan for you be what drives you forward. Because that's a plan worth following. And to be honest, the fulfillment of anything else doesn't compare.

Where Are You Placing Your Focus?

Here's the truth: what we focus on expands.

Years ago, I despised public speaking. I would think about how I'd trip over my words, spin on thoughts about what people might say or think. I'd fixate on all the negative things that would 'most certainly' happen because of how I would messing up.

It was toxic, to say the least.

And it didn't matter if what I'd shared was received well or how I delivered the message. Instead, I was obsessively focused on the 1-2 things that didn't go perfectly.

Sound familiar?

Over time, instead of being consumed by my performance (which I was convinced would be negative), I became excited about how God would speak through me. I became focused on crafting a message that would bless and serve my audience. Instead of being fueled by perfection so that I would be perceived a certain way, dare I say fun, and no longer fear, was at the heart of the experience.

And, it became more about serving others rather than myself.

The Question That Changes Everything

So here's what I want you to ask yourself:

When do you feel most alive with God?

Seriously, when do you feel most alive with the Lord? How has God uniquely designed you to come alive?

  • Who are you with?

  • Where are you at?

  • What are you doing?

For me, I realized it's with planning, goal setting, and reflecting.

Planning and reflecting is how I connect with God. Some of my earliest memories are sitting in church, planning the week ahead or an upcoming trip. The hope, possibility, and peace that came with it—that's where I came alive.

Hearing from Him through reflection and planning is one of the ultimate sparks of joy for me. And then to use that superpower to breathe life into other believers? Come ON!

So what is it that makes you most come alive with God?

Is it serving? Connecting? Creating? Teaching? Encouraging?

Choose Your Best Next Step

Whatever situation you're facing right now, get excited about how God is moving through it!

  • If you're needing to hire, what growth might be on the other side of it?

  • If you need to have a hard conversation, what new skills are you building? What momentum and forward movement could come from it?

  • If you have a big goal that requires showing up consistently, get excited that you're building this new skill!

Reflection Questions

Take some time to sit with these questions:

  1. When do YOU feel most alive?

  2. What's important about that?

  3. What would it look like to honor this?

  4. What would it look like to prioritize this passion?

  5. How might it grow God's kingdom for good?

It's Time to Move

What if this was the year you gave focus, attention, life, and growth to God?

What if, instead of trying to experience life like she does, you tapped into the Lord's design for YOU?

Imagine what might unlock then!

You don't have to keep wondering why it hasn't happened yet. You don't have to keep comparing your journey to someone else's highlight reel.

You just need to discover how God has uniquely wired you, and then live that out with intention.
