How to Have a Business Meeting with God

Minimal white desk with laptop, coffee mug, notebook, pen, candle, and white vase of baby's breath; calm workspace.

A simple, faith-led rhythm for making decisions with God — instead of building on your own and asking Him to bless it after.

You love the idea of bringing God into what you do. The harder question is how — how do you actually make Him the foundation you move and decide from, not just an afterthought once the plan is already made?

I've lived both sides of this. I went from trusting other people primarily, to following Him and letting Him lead — and I've since walked hundreds of women through the same shift. So let's talk about how to plan out your time with God, how to have a "business meeting" with Him, and how to steward the space and serve the people He's brought to you.

Because at its heart, this practice is about one thing: making decisions with God and letting Him lead, rather than doing the thing, telling Him after, and asking Him to bless it. Those are two very different ways to build.

1. Understand What You're Really Choosing

Here's the idea that changed everything for me: if you're the one who built something, you're the one required to sustain it. But if He builds it, it's His responsibility to keep it going.

Doesn't that sound like so much better a way to live and lead?

It also raises the stakes on direction. If you're building, building, building — but building toward something other than what He has for you — that's genuinely devastating. Imagine pouring your life into something that turns out not to be the most important thing. So let's fix our eyes on eternity and let that guide us, because that's what lasts. If you care about productivity, purpose, impact, and effectiveness, it starts here.

2. Follow the Agenda: How the Meeting Actually Flows

So what does a business meeting with God actually look like? Here's a simple agenda you can make your own:

Begin in prayer. There's no better place to start. Dedicate the time to Him, lift it up, and ask Him to speak to you through it. Get your heart and mind right first.

Give gratitude and thanksgiving. What's going well? Thank Him for it, and consider how you can do more of what's working.

Name what you're wrestling with. Talk to Him honestly about it. Ask, "What am I not seeing that You'd want me to?" and "Lord, what are You calling me to surrender and lay down at Your feet?" This is a judgment-free zone — every one of us has our messes, and this is the space to lay it all on the table, give it to God, and make sense of it.

Ask where He's leading. "Where would You like me to follow You?" Scripture tells us to draw near and He will draw near, to ask for wisdom and He'll give it. So ask what beliefs, thoughts, and resources matter for what He's putting on your heart.

Close in prayer and gratitude. Notice the one thing in particular you're meant to amplify, tune into, and walk away with.

A coaching question to sit with: God, how can I invite You in? Get curious about that one. Sit with it without rushing to an answer.

3. Get Quiet Enough to Actually Hear Him

Here's the part it's easy to skip. You are smart and capable, full of thoughts and opinions that matter — many of them God-given. But the deepest transformation happens when you get quiet, give it to Him, and make room to hear Him speak.

That means creating real space for the Holy Spirit to lead. One practice that's become meaningful to me in the last couple of years is soaking music — putting on instrumental Christian worship, the songs you love but stripped to the background instruments, so you can dial in and tune into Him without distraction. I once heard the idea of quiet time being comparable to a spa appointment for the soul. Give yourself that.

4. Ask What Support You Actually Need

Part of following Him well is being honest about what you can't carry alone. As you meet with God, ask what kind of support this season calls for. There are so many options today it can feel overwhelming — so let Him simplify it for you as you walk the narrow path.

Maybe it's connecting more deeply with people already in your inner circle. Maybe it's investing in help or bringing someone fresh in. Maybe it's finding real community. At Grace Space, that's exactly what our small-group mastermind, Flourish, is built for — intentionally small groups of four to six women, where you go deep, grow your faith, and experience genuine breakthrough together.

A coaching question to sit with: What kind of support do I actually need to do what God is putting on my heart?

5. Make It Real: Rhythm, Cadence, and Follow-Through

An idea only changes your life once it becomes something you do. So make it concrete.

Decide how long and how often. Weekly, monthly, quarterly — what cadence fits your life? For me, this is a monthly practice that takes just 15 to 30 minutes. Think about the ROI: a short, simple burst of time in exchange for hearing from your Creator.

Then protect it. A recurring calendar invite is what works for me. Choose the time of day you'll actually follow through on — not the time you'll agree to and quietly skip. And make it something you look forward to: treat it like you're genuinely meeting with Jesus, because you are. Go to a coffee shop you love, schedule the date, romanticize it a little. Make it fabulous.

A best-next-step tip: do it with a friend. Go deep with Him one-on-one, then come together and share how He's moving in each of your lives. Community makes it bigger than it would ever be on your own.

A business meeting with God is really just a decision about who gets to lead. You can keep building on your own strength and asking Him to bless the result — or you can build with Him and let the sustaining be His job. One path leaves you responsible for holding it all together; the other lets you fix your eyes on what actually lasts. The practice is simple: get quiet, ask honest questions, listen, and follow. He promises that when you draw near, He draws near.
