Leading with Intention: A Conversation with Dana Gentry Roach

Woman with long blonde hair, hands clasped near face praying, appears thoughtful in a bright room. Others in background, soft lighting.

What does it mean to truly show up as a leader—not just in business, but in life?

In this episode of the Grace Space Christian Coaching podcast, I sat down with Dana Gentry Roach, a woman who knows a thing or two about intentional growth. As the owner of multiple Keller Williams real estate franchises closing over $1.5 billion annually and host of the "Everything Life and Real Estate" podcast, Dana has built an impressive business. But what struck me most about our conversation wasn't her success, it was her heart for leading others well.

Leadership Isn't About You

Dana shared something that really resonated: "Leadership done well isn't about elevating yourself. It's about creating space for others to rise."

And here's the kicker: that doesn't happen by accident. It happens through intentional action. Not perfection. Not performance. Just a steady commitment to showing up and building habits that reflect your values like generosity, encouragement, and gratitude.

But let's be honest: showing up is easier said than done, right?

The Power of Values-Driven Habits

One of my favorite parts of our conversation was diving into how Dana has learned to align her daily habits with her core values. We talked about those moments when life and values become misaligned (because let's face it, it happens to all of us) and what it takes to course correct.

Dana emphasized that the most transformative leadership moments don't come from bold moves or big wins, but from the quiet choice to think of someone else.

Those small moments (a thoughtful text, a word of encouragement, showing up when it's inconvenient, etc.) are what create lasting impact.

Learning from a Legend

As a member of the John Maxwell High-Capacity Leadership Group, Dana has John Maxwell as a personal mentor. (Yes, that John Maxwell!) She shared how this relationship came to be, her favorite lessons from him, and how his mentorship has shaped the way she leads today.

Her advice for anyone seeking a mentor? It's not about finding someone perfect— it's about finding someone who challenges you to grow.

Consistency Over Perfection

Dana's definition of intentional leadership isn't about doing everything perfectly. Instead, it's about doing the right things consistently, with others in mind. This is something we champion at Grace Space Christian Coaching too!

We dove into practical strategies for:

  • Staying consistent when motivation fades

  • Prioritizing what truly matters (and saying no to the rest)

  • Growing alongside your spouse with intentional rhythms and habits

  • Finding resources and retreats that fuel your faith and leadership
