Be Still Mama Retreat Recap | Faith, Parenting, Marriage & Work-Life Balance

There are moments when you step into a place and instantly know—you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
That was my experience at the Be Still Mama Retreat in the Carolina mountains at The Cove.
A weekend away filled with biblical truth, meaningful conversations, rest you don’t have to earn, and space to simply be.
No rushing. No striving. No producing.
Just stillness, and the gentle clarity that follows when we finally slow down enough to listen.
When Work Loses Its Why
One of the most powerful themes from the retreat was this question:
What is motivating the work you’re doing?
So often, our work — even good, meaningful work — can quietly drift away from calling and toward pressure, comparison, or proving. We begin running races God never asked us to run, sometimes carrying chains so heavy that they start to feel like part of our identity.
But calling isn’t about hustle.
And it isn’t about inviting God into our plans, but about following Him on the path He’s already set before us.
Calling, Rest, and the Courage to Pause
Throughout the retreat, wisdom was shared by voices like Helen Smallbone (mother of seven, including Christian music artists King & Country and Rebecca St James to name a few) and Rebekah Lyons (Christian author, speaker, podcaster, and more), reminding us that calling often sits at the intersection of our God-given gifts and the burdens that break our hearts.
We were reminded that:
Rest is not passive—it’s a spiritual rhythm and guardrail
Grief is not weakness; it’s often the doorway to comfort
What we consume eventually consumes us
And a life not rooted in Jesus is a life only half-lived
Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is pause, worship, and remember that God delights in us —not because of what we produce, but because we are His.
Calling Touches Every Area of Life
This conversation didn’t stop at work.
We talked about parenting... specifically, how storytelling and faith shape our children, and why planting seeds early matters.
We talked about marriage... why friendship, joy, and choosing love daily are foundational to a healthy home.
And we talked about rest... not as escape, but as replenishment.
God worked in ways greater than any of us could have asked for or imaged.
