A Week in My Life as a Faith-Based Life Coach

Woman in blue patterned dress stands by a beige building with white columns. Greenery and red brick path add a serene vibe.

Last year, the most popular story I shared on Instagram was asking if you'd be interested in doing a "day in the life."

The resounding answer? YES!

But ultimately, I felt like a week in the life (or listen on the podcast!) would be more representative of what actually goes on here. So I went ahead and shared from that perspective.

It's been several months since then, and I had a really fun week in late April - thought you'd love to see the behind the scenes on exactly I plan my life and work as a faith-based life and business coach!

I was curious this time what you wanted to hear—was it more life, or work, or about 50/50? I asked on Instagram, and the majority said a combination of work and life.

A Quick Intro

Before we hop in, a quick intro for those of you who are new here.

Hey, I'm Alexandra Kaval, a faith-based coach, a success strategist for life and work, if you will. I serve female leaders, primarily business owners, on how to leave the overwhelm, confusion, and doubt behind and swap that for focus, confidence, and conviction so that you can lead your most intentional and Christ-centered life.

Alright, so let's do it!

SUNDAY: Celebration, Church, Rest & Deep Connection

Opening a Special Gift

I can't recommend enough that you find other women who are doing work somewhat similar to you, but in their own lane.

This is why I created Flourish, the group program for Grace Space Christian Coaching. Because doing this has been so revolutionary for me that I wanted to create a space for y'all—for women who are passionate, who are high achievers, who are ambitious, who want to lead flourishing faith lives with their faith and their work, and have a depth of community with other people who get it.

(If that sounds like something you want to do, join at https://www.gracespacechristiancoaching.com/subscribe to be the first to apply when Flourish opens in the fall.)

Community in business has been a game changer and one of the biggest blessings, hands down, that the Lord gave me in 2025.

Started my Sunday by opening the most thoughtful card and gift from a dear friend in business. Yes, it was so fun to receive. But to give it? Even better.

Here's my encouragement to you too: What does it look like to go that extra mile for someone in your life who's celebrating something big?

Church: A Pastor Who Goes There

That kicked off Sunday morning. From there, of course, we went to church. We start our morning worshiping with our church family each and every Sunday. We do not miss, and I couldn't love it more.

Our home church is a bit smaller size-wise, and we love it. I feel like over the past several years we've gone to every size, every denomination under the sun, it feels like. And this place is just such a treasure for our family.

And you guys, our pastor is currently sharing on sex—and ultimately sharing on intimacy in light of God's Word.

Which I cannot say I have heard addressed often, or done well. And I so appreciate being part of a church that talks about what can be a really uncomfortable topic for so many. We're going there, and we're having dialogue and understanding it in light of Scripture.

Rest Is the Way Through

After church, God bless him, my husband put together some homemade breakfast sandwiches for us. The girls played outside. Just a very low-key and easy start to our afternoon, if you will.

During the girls' nap time/quiet time, I usually tend to catch up on work or errands, but I was just wiped.

So a Sunday afternoon nap it was. Because honestly, sometimes rest is the way through.

Let me give you that encouragement, that permission slip if you need it. Rest is part of God's creation, and it's a way to honor Him and to surrender.

Meeting with a Mom About Raising Daughters

The evening was so much fun. I got to meet with two different women.

One of them, kind of a wild story. This is a woman whose daughter is attending an Ivy League. Her daughter's a D1 swimmer and studying for her MCAT. But what I love so much about her is that she's a sweet, kindhearted, and gentle young woman.

I'd shared with her mom my respect the way she's raising your daughter and how I would love to learn a little bit more about the behind the scenes of what that looked like.

A bold ask, but I went for it. You know why? Because I care so deeply about my girls and want to do everything I can to raise these three precious daughters who God has entrusted to me.

So whatever that thing is that you're like, "Wow, that kind of feels out there, but maybe I'll go for it"—think about what's the best that could happen. Our conversation was sweet.

Deep Dinner Conversation

From there, I went out to dinner and deep conversation with one of my good friends from church. We met at Flower Child, which is one of my favorites. I just genuinely love a great fast casual place. And I always say if I had unlimited resources, having a chef that would just whip me up meals like Flower Child—that would be a dream come true.

But this dinner was one of those dinners where you laughed, you cried, we prayed.

That's something I would never do in years past. Pray with a friend and do it in a public place. But at a certain point, what matters most is what your relationship with God is and what He thinks about you, not what other people are assuming.

MONDAY: Coaching, Networking & Friendship

Serving Coaching Clients

Fun fact for those of you who are listening: I would say the way I market is primarily towards small business owners, and that is the great majority of the clients that I serve—small business owners or professionals. So I'm talking doctors, lawyers, agency owners, careers like that.

But it's a little bit more 50/50 on serving clients with topics related to work versus topics related to life.

So maybe a fun fact or something interesting for you to know if you aren't familiar with that.

Networking & Business Development

After that, had a networking call with someone who does similar but different work, and seeing how we could support each other. I can get requests for certain client types or certain topics that aren't necessarily the arena that I serve in. And I always love having a great handful of people that I can refer out to.

So that was a really fun conversation. I'm really excited to see what, if anything, is going to come from that. We'll keep you guys updated.

Then recently worked with a coach in like a sprint type of commitment, and have been doing the work coming out of that. So refinement to our sales page, there's a new freebie in the works, there's a new email sequence in the works for new clients. So it's been fun.

But I will say it was just a reminder of why our coaching package is designed the way it is—with the regular and consistent sessions.

There are some arenas where sprints can be good and helpful, but here I am several weeks later still sitting on some of this because the accountability is not there, the follow-up and the iterations are not there.

So that's why we do what we do on six and 12-month installments. And honestly, the majority, I'd say close to about 70% of clients, like to continue on with sustainment sessions because the transformation is that big.

Time with Tamara

The afternoon I got to hang out with one of my friends. My friend's name is Tamara.

My background is in HR leadership development. I've got a master's in HR development and worked in corporate America for about 10 years in consulting and human resources. So I met this friend while I was at Duke Energy in Uptown Charlotte.

She had done this kind of like a lunch and learn for the HR group, and I just—I was like, "I just love her. I just think she's so cool and I would love to be her friend."

So at the end of the talk I went up, introduced myself, said hi, and we just became best friends.

Again, for whoever's listening who needs that nudge: Just go and do it. People want to meet people and are truly delighted and honored when you take an interest in them.

Tamara will sometimes occasionally eat like a vegan type diet. And so she made this vegan chocolate cake years ago and I—I'm not a vegan, but it was like one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had. I'm not even a huge chocolate person, but when I had my third, she's like, "What can I do to help?" And I'm like, "Do you mind making me another chocolate cake?"

And so that's what she made. But it was her husband's birthday. She made a chocolate cake, had leftovers, and she invited me and the girls over to share it.

And I was there in a hot minute.

So we just had so much fun chatting and going over to her house, seeing her son. They had some mini donkeys over there, which was fun for the girls to see. I don't think they've gotten the chance to check that out yet.

Definitely look up this friend if you're not familiar with her. But Tamara is just such a light. She is one of them. She has loved and blessed me so well throughout the years.

We're going to do a session in the summer cohort about how to have deep and rich Christian friendships and go through this.

Tamara—check her out on Etsy "A Love of Faith Boutique." She sells faith-based stickers. She's got a book out called Proverbs for Selling. Who knew you could do selling in a Christian way?

If you're in Charlotte, she is behind a Christian Business Chamber. Just an amazing human being and so kind. Had the best time hanging out with them on Monday. It was just so fun.

Then came back, got the girls ready for bed. My husband occasionally will do a men's prayer group, and so he jumped in on that. And I just had a chill night.

TUESDAY: Faith & Work, Coaching & Community

Charlotte Institute for Faith and Work

Another faith-based organization here in Charlotte—Charlotte's just such a wonderful city for so many reasons, particularly because of all of the opportunities to get involved from a faith perspective.

There's an organization here, again for those of you local that you might want to check out: Charlotte Institute for Faith and Work.

I've been talking with Julie, the founder, for years and years and years as she began to design this organization. We are both connected through our HR background.

Here's my encouragement for you: When you stick with something long enough, you begin to see the seeds that you plant sprawl. They will. Trust, have faith, follow up, stay connected, because good will come.

There's a potential new thing that they're doing that I'm getting to be involved in, which was so fun to begin chatting with her about that.

So that marked the day on Tuesday morning.

Continuous Education

Then spent some time looking into continuous education. Maybe if you're not familiar—most people when you sign on with Grace Space Christian Coaching don't ask about credentials, which is fine.

But my background: Not only is the master's, but also I've got a certificate as a life coach, a master coach, a group coach, a laser coach. There is so much coming to the table to serve you.

And I'm currently working towards level three with the International Coaching Federation. And so you require continuous education for that.

So I'm looking at a couple of different things like neuroscience, positive psychology. If there is an area that is fascinating to you that you would love to incorporate into your coaching—let me know. I would love for you to weigh in as I get curious about what it looks like to continue to serve you guys so well and so deeply.

Social Media Strategy

Had a phone call too with an agency who I am looking at and thinking about the best way to invest as GSCC continues to grow. They're an agency who supports social media management. And so that's something that I'm considering.

But goodness gracious, after running a business for almost 10 years, there are so many different avenues and options and things to think about and look through. And just truly thinking, what is the best way to serve you all?

Conversion is a part of that. And social media, there's an industry relationship with that. I could go so much more into it. You guys might remember I did an episode on my honest thoughts on what I learned after posting to social media for 30 days straight.

But yeah, numbers are nice, but we're not just about vanity, how things look on the outside. We're about: What is the impact? What is the depth? What is the transformation?

And that's why you tend to hear more from me and see more consistently on YouTube and the podcast!

Speaking of YouTube, go watch the full "A Week in My Life as a Faith-Based Life Coach" episode there!

Play Date & Evening Coaching

From there we had another really fun afternoon. My sister's local to Charlotte too. She has a little girl who is close in age to mine. And so we just had so much fun—a chill little afternoon play date with them.

And then on Tuesday evenings I do serve clients. So I had a coaching client in the evening where we dug into quarterly goal setting with her. She's a client who has renewed as well. So much fun.

Maybe one other thing to say too that I probably don't chat about enough: I coach clients all over the world through Grace Space Christian Coaching.

Honestly, I have a very small, maybe 25% handful that are right here in Charlotte. GSCC serves worldwide! We're talking Australia, Canada, all over the US, which is so much fun.

So if you're listening and you're somewhere else— faith based coaching with GSCC is for you,t oo.

Flourish Group Program

Then had Flourish Group Program. In Flourish, currently we have three pillars to dig into: community, faith, and work.

And we talked about work. This is a really fun cohort. One of the niches that I'll serve through GSCC are content creators, influencers, if you will. And this is a content creator cohort.

We talked about work. One of the biggest takeaways that someone shared after our time together was that she wished she had spent less time stressing over things like blog alt text, posting consistently, or keeping a log list, Google Calendar, and instead more time learning how to feel peace right in the middle of the mess.

That made me smile and my heart could burst so much. That is at the heart of what we do.

Yeah, we can absolutely talk about strategy and efficiency and being focused on the right things. Yes, and being focused in the right ways. But it's ultimately being focused on the right things—that is the secret sauce, if you will. That is the transformation. That is what unlocks this new space through GSCC.

So again, if you're intrigued, apply for your clarity call so that we can support you in this. Because there's nothing quite like it.

WEDNESDAY: Long-Term Clients & New Series

Wednesday is another coaching day for me.

I had a session with a client. We're going on six years together, which is so fun to have the depth and the longevity. It is just so special to be able to know someone's life, someone's business, and just serve you that much more effectively because of the history.

Another coaching client—again, another one who has renewed.

People come and they stay because of the value that you find in here.

And then began a new series, you guys. Behind the scenes sneak peek—it's going to be called "Most Likely Glory Stories." (Read our first glory story featuring Mary Catherine Echols!)

So these are stories of how clients are served in this space. So if you are curious about, "Well, what could and would we actually talk about as a prospective client?" Or even if you're a current client who might be wondering, "What are other people coaching on? How can I use this space as effectively as possible?"—you're going to be seeing more there. So look out for that.

Working from a Café

And then last but not least, had some time later in the day to go to a local café. I adore so much—I mean, you all can see we put in built-ins, which is so fun and so nice. But there's something I love too about changing up the space.

Going to a lovely café with an amazing atmosphere—it's nice to change it up and get different focus that way.

So dug more into some of the website updates, following up with a business coach on some challenges they're running into: creating content, client connection emails, things like that.

So that was my Wednesday!

THURSDAY: Atmosphere, Back-End Work & Women's Night

The Importance of Atmosphere

What would it look like to take care of yourself, to take care of your space, so that you can do your work in a really effective way?

Through our work together, you begin to pay attention and focus on the things that you tend to glaze over that actually unlock a whole new level of potential and successful results for you.

So got to spend a morning at a really cute space here locally and did a lot of back-end business work. Jotted down some notes for Friday Favorites. Had a follow-up conversation with that Charlotte Institute for Faith and Work. And got to hang out with the girls and be really intentional with our time together in that afternoon.

Mastermind Call

And then hopped on a call for another mastermind locally that I'm considering joining about the importance of relationships in business.

Again, yeah, there's a lot that we can get and can be really valuable with AI. That's definitely a tool to get curious about and to use and get familiar with. But there is no substitute for in-person connection.

Sure, we can connect all day long online, but it feels different doing person-to-person in real life.

So I was really excited about some things that I had learned on there.

Women's Night at Church

And then wrapped up the day going to a women's night at my church.

We do this about monthly. We began our time together with worship. Which I don't know about you, but I was raised with being familiar with maybe two songs as we began a church and then went into the message and some other things.

But in becoming a mom and having more demands, my heart needs worship. It needs deep worship and sitting and soaking and being with Him.

So I appreciate that more and more.

And then we had a message. We actually watched somebody on YouTube together—I believe John Mark Comer was who had shared—and then had prayer time and shared testimonies of how God is moving.

The Power of Praying with Others

One of the things that has been so pivotal for my faith growth is prayer. And it's praying with other people.

Before, I could share a story about this—maybe this is another episode. But I remember the very first life group that I was part of. Whoever hosted, they had to close in prayer. And I was terrified.

I was at this place where I despised public speaking. It was like horrifying, terrifying to me. And to pray in front of a group just sent me into panic mode.

The weeks before it was my turn, I would literally jot down notes of how people were praying, what they were praying for, because I didn't want to do it. I was so uncomfortable.

Fast forward to 10 to 15 years later, and praying for others—I would say more, it's more of an excited and like, "What is God going to do in this? How is He going to show up? How am I going to hear from Him?" type energy.

There's like a little bit more of a thrill than nerves, if you will.

And so praying for other people on the spot—if you want to grow in this, challenge yourself to do it.

Not just say, "You know what, can I pray for you?" and then pray for you later and do it at home.

Challenge yourself to pray right then, right there. Better yet, do it with other people that are there. Not so that you can impress other people in any way—no, no, no. That's not what it's about. It's more about believing that God will speak to you, that you will hear from Him.

And doing it with other people—it's almost like another form of accountability, connection, community.

And something that you say might not only bless the person that you're praying for, but might unlock something in someone else too.

Cannot recommend it enough.

FRIDAY: Men's Event, Mastermind & Monthly Planning

My Husband's Faith Journey

Friday. My husband had a men's event in the morning which was awesome. The depth of growth in His faith over the past decade and a half is nothing short of breathtaking.

If you are having this depth of love for the Lord, but maybe your spouse, boyfriend, fiancé, whatever, is in a different place in his journey, keep praying for him.

There's a book called Power of a Praying Wife. That's a really good one if you want a resource on that.

But he had a men's alumni event that he attended—a breakfast in the morning. There's a local

organization here called Charlotte Leadership Forum (CLF) that we had experienced years and years ago. So the men got to get back together and connect over breakfast, which was great.

Another Mastermind

And then I, after dropping the girls to their program, spent the morning with a different perspective mastermind that I'm considering joining.

Which ultimately I don't know that it's the best fit, but it was encouraging to see what other people are doing, what other people are like. And just be excited by and see how Flourish, GSCC's mastermind, is really so unique and the connection, the intimacy, the depth that we get so quickly for something that is online is so cool.

Interested in our next Flourish Mastermind cohort? Make sure you are on our email list!

Monthly Planning Rhythms

And then some of the things that I do in the afternoon—so at the end of every month, I have several recurring invites on my calendar.

One is personal. I'll go through. I have a list of different activities for our family and kind of categorized by type. And then I go through that, see what we want to plan for the month ahead.

Some core things that we want to do for our marriage, things that are important to me for friendships, and think on one new thing I want to experience.

So I go through all that. (You want to hear more, just let me know.)

And then have a prayer journal that I'll update monthly, my PowerSheets, and a traditions list that I look through.

So again, if you want to hear more on this, I can certainly do so. But these are just things that I'll do on a monthly rhythm that I capture in that last day of the month and make time for. Because this is the heart of where so much joy and intentionality comes.

Volunteering at Consignment Sale

And then I rounded out the day with volunteering.

This makes me—this is more personal side of things. In Charlotte, I don't know if this is the same way throughout the country or not, but Charlotte has some really good kids' consignment sales. Nice boutique things. A lot of things that come with their tags on them that are brand new.

I joke because one of the girls' preschool teachers was like, "I think y'all are the best dressed kids at this school."

And you guys, I gotta say, the majority of my girls' stuff—it's consignment.

But I had so much fun shopping, finding so many new goodies, so many steals and deals. And you know, with three girls, it's just the best to find them and dress them in the prettiest, cutest, girliest things ever.

And so that was the rest of Friday.

SATURDAY: Closet Changeover, Finances & A School Play

Closet Organization

Saturday. This was like a chill, laid-back Saturday. It was—speaking of clothes—closet changeover. So going from the cooler weather things to the warmer weather things.

To go through all their drawers and organize—my brain, I just have to have organization. Some of y'all probably do the same thing with certain types of clothes categorized, certain colors in order.

I feel like I can clearly see what we have when we do that.

So changeover, laundry, and chill.

Talking Finances Out of the House

And then in the afternoon we had—my mother-in-law is in Charlotte too, which is nice to be able to have support with the girls here and there for things like I'm about to tell you.

I wanted to chat finances with my husband. And I don't know about y'all, but it's hard to do when there are little ones running around, when this is already, can be somewhat of a tender topic that you need to get focused in on.

And then occasionally we'll say we're doing it later in the evening, but again, sometimes you're just spent by the end of the day.

So this was something that we tested for the first time—getting out of the house in the middle of the day to do it.

And so we talked finances, we talked about different ideas. He's not super involved in GSCC, but just different ways of considering investing and chatted business growth plans.

And we usually run our errands separately, but just had to grab a few things from the store and so did that together, which is fun because that's not always an experience we get to share together.

So did that for a little bit on Saturday.

Attending a School Play

And then last but not least, I went to a school play at a local school we were considering.

And again, you're like, "What? This is what you did on a Saturday? You went to a school play?" I did. Yep.

Because I wanted to get a sense of community, of what the life outside of academics at this school is.

Yeah, maybe strange to some, but important to me. I am that person who goes the extra mile to know, to see, to experience.

And I think that's why GSCC is such a success and clients come back again and again and again. Because here, we go the extra mile to get clear, to get intentionality, to be confident on what you're doing, and then go all in on it.

So that rounded out Saturday.

A Few More Notes

A couple of other things. There were some activities throughout the week that the girls do that I get to take them to and enjoy. Didn't share the scoop on that.

And then my husband actually was traveling a couple of days over the week. So it was a bit more full to balance work and littles and solo parenting. That can be a lot. But we made it through. And just trying to have the most positive outlook for things like that. Noticing, "Lord, how are You going to show up in this? How are You going to equip me in this?" Really praying for him and his time and that he's a leader in his space.

Things that before I could have been so much more negative on or frustrated by — the Lord just really has been doing a work.

And that's what happens in this space. We begin to go into the hard and instead of being frustrated or drained by it, to be excited. Think about, "How are You going to work in this, God? How am I going to be sharpened and refined through this time?"

That's what we're all about here.

Keeping It Real: What Didn't Happen

And then, because I want to keep it real too, what was amiss, what did I see that I didn't necessarily love, that was on the calendar that I didn't do or wasn't even on the calendar?

I'll share three core things before we wrap.

1. Working Out

The first one, you'll notice I didn't say anything about working out, which is a bummer.

I simply need to schedule it and commit and be reminded of how good it feels.

So what is that thing for you that just is not happening? What do you need to consider or change or shift to even turn up the dial, the possibility of making that thing happen?

I used to be so great with YouTube videos for exercise, but now just in the phase of life that we're in, it's just easier to get out of the house and maybe not do it as often as I had been, but have a really good workout and do it a couple days a week.

2. Cooking a New Meal

Another one—one of the core goals that I have is to cook at least one new meal a month, ideally a week.

You can kind of tell, for me at least, this week was full. It was full. And to have the headspace and the capacity to do something new or different, it just wasn't there.

So I'm not going to make it mean anything. I'm just going to bump it into another week. And that's that.

3. Monthly Family Journal

And then last but not least, having a monthly family journal is something that the Lord has put in my heart to do. Because there's so many amazing things—you guys can relate, right?—that you do, that you experience, that you learn. And I wanted to capture that and be able to reflect and look back and almost have it as like an heirloom of sorts for the girls. And something that I learned.

So I've got two versions of my calendar. I keep work electronically on my computer. And then personal life, I've got a hard copy calendar for that.

So my reminders for this monthly family journal are on my computer, but it doesn't really make sense because it's not a work thing. That's very likely part of the reason it's getting ignored.

So my next step to do is to pop that on the calendar with the personal things to make space for that.

Your Turn: What Do You Want to Know?

What do you love about hearing my week in the life as a Christian life and business coach?

What did you love? What surprised you? What stands out as you heard a bit about the behind the scenes?

What did I not cover that you wish I did?

And then maybe even, what assumptions do you have about me that you're curious about?

I would love to share anything and everything that comes up!

Ready to Shift Your Day-to-Day?

So if you're really excited about this and know that you need to shift your day-to-day to something that aligns more with your values, but feel overwhelmed and aren't sure how to begin or keep it up, learn what Christian coaching with GSCC entails and if you're ready, apply for a clarity call, and we can talk about what next steps look like for getting started.

What surprised you most about this week in the life? What are you going to adopt into your own routine? I'd love to hear in the comments!

Really enjoyed the behind-the-scenes perspective in this post. Many people see the final portrait but don't realize how much planning goes into lighting, positioning, and creating a comfortable environment for the subject. The way you explain the setup and the small adjustments that shape the final image helps beginners understand that good studio portraits are usually the result of patience and thoughtful preparation rather than just pressing the shutter. Posts like this are helpful for anyone trying to learn the process step by step. When people write about creative work or share detailed experiences like this, clear storytelling also matters, which is why some students working on personal statements or creative reflections sometimes look for a Premium University Application Essay…

I liked how this article shares real daily experiences and the emotional side of faith based coaching. While studying personal development topics, I struggled to express reflections clearly and had to write my assignment with extra guidance to structure my thoughts. Stories like this help connect theory with real life practice. It shows how reflection and purpose can shape both personal growth and learning journeys.
